A DRUNKEN man has been banned from the roads after being caught riding a mini moto on a pavement.
John Catley, 24, was stopped by officers in High Street, Jarrow, who smelled booze on his breath. Catley, of Abbey Drive, Jarrow, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and driving with no insurance, licence or headgear.
Paul Anderson, prosecuting, said: “It was 5.35pm when police officers stopped Catley. He smelled of alcohol, so they arrested him.
“A breath test showed he had 81mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit being 35mg.”
Geoffrey Forrester, defending, said: “It was a stupid thing to do and he accepts that.”
Magistrates banned Catley from driving for 17 months and fined him £137.
He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
