EX-Newcastle United player Nile Ranger has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
The 21-year-old striker, who left the Magpies by mutual consent a fortnight ago, was arrested after reports of a fight in The Gate complex car park.
The London-born former England Under-19 player was last night being questioned in custody.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said its officers were called out to an alleged assault on Wednesday evening.
A statement from the force said: “Police received a report of a fight in the car park area at The Gate in Newcastle.
“A 21-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of assault and he is currently in custody helping police with inquiries.”
