Former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger is due in court today charged with fraud and money laundering offences.
The 25-year-old is accused of conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering in February last year.
Metropolitan Police said the offences relate to the obtaining of a vulnerable person's bank account details by phone with a view to getting hold of their money.
Ranger, currently with Southend United, was charged on Monday and is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court in London today.
The footballer, from north London, has also played for Blackpool and Swindon Town, as well as having loan spells at Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday.
