FIREFIGHTERS in South Tyneside turned crimebusters as they were drafted in by police to help with the arrest of a suspected burglar.
A crew from Fulwell fire station in Sunderland was called to Railway Terrace, East Boldon, at around 2am.
Watch manager Steve Bewick, said: “I think he was trying to break into somewhere and the police had caught him in the act.
“He was in a locked rear yard. The police already had him handcuffed but they needed a hand to get him out.
“We used our short extension ladder to get over the wall and raised the roller shutter to let them out.”
