A CASH-strapped charity is hoping a golf tournament will help it tee off for fundraising success.
The National Victims’ Association will be hosting its 10th annual golf day and dinner on Friday, September 5.
The event is held to raise cash for the South Tyneside-based charity, set up to support families affected by murder and manslaughter.
Those taking part will also have a chance to win a trip for two to the 2015 US Masters at Augusta in Georgia.
Dave Hines, head of services and development for the charity, said: “Every year, this golf tournament helps to raise much-needed funds for our charity to enable us to deliver the vital services needed to support families who have had their lives turned upside down through murder or manslaughter.
“We really need people to get behind this event. The charity, like others, is going through difficult times at the moment financially, so the money raised at the golf tournament will really go a long way to help us.”
The charity was set up by Mr Hines, of Jarrow, after his 23-year-old daughter Marie was killed in 1992 by ex-partner Anthony Davison.
Mr Hines felt there was a lack of support for victims’ families at the time and decided things needed to change.
The charity started out helping families throughout the North East but has gone on to offer assistance across the UK.
Each year, it hosts an annual conference giving families the chance to ask questions of those within the justice system.
The golf event takes place at Ramside Hall in Durham and is being organised and sponsored by DT58 Sports Management.
David Thomas, director of the Sunderland-based company, said: “The golf event attracts a good crowd who always enjoy the day.
“However, there is always room for more teams to get involved.”
Teams of four are being invited to take part at a cost of £350, which includes a round of golf and tickets for an evening function featuring music by girl trio Blistered Molly and a disco.
Tickets are also available for the night time event only, priced £25, including a three-course dinner.
