DAUBED ... police are investigating a spate of graffiti attacks in Hebburn and Jarrow.

POLICE are investigating a spate of graffiti attacks in South Tyneside.

One person has been arrested after scrawlings were left on a number of businesses, homes and council properties in Hebburn and Jarrow.

The graffiti was left between Friday and Saturday.

From about 8.30am on Saturday, police officers and residents spotted nine attacks on properties in and around Gladstone Street, Hebburn, and Park Road, Albert Road, Northbourne Road and Bedewell Industrial Estate, all Jarrow.

South Tyneside Sergeant, Peter Smith, said: “Scrawling graffiti on people’s property is not a game. It is vandalism, and those responsible are committing a crime.

“Northumbria Police and our partner agencies will not tolerate crimes such as this and we will be working with the community to find out who is responsible.”

The marking range from simple tags and initials to more elaborate and colourful designs.

One person has been arrested and is helping police with their inquiries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 or independent charity, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
