Hammer attack accused bailed by court

A MAN has appeared in court after a cyclist was attacked with a hammer as he rode along a South Tyneside street.

Harry Cameron Wilson, 20, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court today, charged with wounding, harassment, possessing an offensive weapon and two counts of common assault.

No pleas were entered and the case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court for trial on March 4.

He was granted bail until then, with the conditions he reside at an address in Highgate, Sheffield, keeps to a curfew of 11pm to 7am each day, does not enter South Tyneside or contact prosecution witnesses.

A 19-year-old man and 20-year-old woman also arrested in connection with the incident have been bailed pending further enquiries.

The 20-year-old victim was attacked in West Park Road, South Shields, just before 1.30am yesterday.

He suffered injuries to his face and was treated at South Tyneside District Hospital.
