A MAN who was caught with heroin has been put on a course to try to get him off the drug.

A wrap of heroin was found in Gareth Roberts’s home during a police raid on February 12.

Then two weeks later, officers saw him try to throw three packets of the drug away as they walked towards him in St Hilda Street, South Shields.

The 28-year-old, of Bedford Avenue, South Shields, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing the Class A drug at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates gave him a six-month community order with supervision and a drug rehabilitation requirement.
