Jail for burglar who kicked in front door

JAILED ... burglar Shaun Burn, who kicked in a front door to raid a home.

JAILED ... burglar Shaun Burn, who kicked in a front door to raid a home.

A BURGLAR who kicked in a front door during a raid has been jailed for a year.

Shaun Burn smashed his way into a property in Collingwood Street, South Shields, and took £475 worth of property, including DVDs and jewellery on December 12 last year.

Newcastle Crown Court heard the two men who lived at the address were not in at the time.

Burn was caught on CCTV taking two bags filled with the stolen property away from the scene of the raid, and they were later found in his home.

The 21-year-old, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burglary.

He was sentenced via videolink to HMP Durham, where he has been held on remand.

Mr Recorder Richard Woolfall told Burn: “You must learn the lesson that committing serious offences results in terms of imprisonment.

“Fortunately most of the items were recovered, but the occupiers of the premises still have the knowledge someone was in their house when they were not there.

“Many people do not recover from that effect in relation to burglaries.”

Vic Laffey, defending, said Burn has an offer of work and is determined to stay out of trouble in future.
