A DRUNKEN dad woke his girlfriend up and attacked her after accusing her of seeing someone else.
Lee Robins punched her up to 10 times in the face and body after they had been out drinking last Friday.
The 28-year-old had looked through the woman’s mobile phone before waking her and launching the attack.
She managed to run out of the house and to a neighbour’s, where she called the police.
Robins had been living with the woman – who has now split with him – at her home in Borough Road, South Shields. He pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
Stan Sudworth, prosecuting, said: “The victim says she was in a relationship with the defendant for more than five years. She has two children to Robins.
“They split two years ago due to his alcohol abuse, but last month she took him back after he convinced her he was over his problems.
“He continued to drink, however.”
Mr Sudworth said the couple had been out drinking last Friday before the attack happened. He added: “The victim went to bed and fell asleep. She was awoken by Robins who had her mobile phone in. He punched her five to 10 times in her face and body and shouted at her, asking who she had been seeing.
“She ran downstairs and to a neighbour’s, where she called police.
“Fortunately, the children weren’t there, as they were being looked after by someone else.”
The woman went to South Tyneside District Hospital for treatment to her injuries.
Magistrates decided that Robins should be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court.
He will appear in Newcastle at a date to be fixed and was granted bail on condition he does not contact prosecution witnesses, lives with his sister at The Bridges in Spohr Terrace, South Shields, and does not enter his ex-girlfriend’s street.
