RESIDENTS in South Shields will see a new face patrolling the streets.
Julie Beattie has taken over as East Shields Neighbourhood Sergeant, working out of Harton police station.
She moves into the role after leaving her post as a sergeant at South Tyneside’s 24/7 team and has previously been in the borough’s communications department and CID squad.
In her new role, Sgt Beattie will be working with the community in East Shields – which covers Harton, Horsley Hill, Marsden, Harton Moor and Westoe Crown Village.
Sgt Beattie, who has been a Northumbria Police officer for 18 years, said: “I’m really enjoying the challenge of this new role, which is helped by working with an experienced and enthusiastic team of officers.
“The East Shields neighbourhood policing team is hard-working and committed to serving the needs of the public.
“They also have strong community and partner-agency contacts, which I hope to build on.
“In my new role, I’m committed to making sure we listen to what people are telling us and that we work alongside other agencies to respond to any concerns brought to our attention.
“This is alongside our efforts to cut crime and disorder in the area.
“I’d encourage anyone who sees me out on patrol to have a chat and let me know if there’s any issues they would like to raise.”
