A 60-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court and admitted a serious charge of violence.

Ronald Bell pleaded guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm relating to an incident on May 12.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

No details were given about the case during the hearing at Newcastle Crown Court.

Bell, of Belloc Avenue, South Shields, will be sentenced next month and was granted bail in the meantime.

Judge Brian Forster QC ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

The judge told Bell: “I may not be the judge on the next occasion. I can express no view as to what the sentence will be.”
