A MAN accused of attacking his pregnant girlfriend is to stand trial.

Thomas Calder is said to have pinned the woman – who is six months pregnant – onto a bed and punched her in the face during the alleged attack on Friday in her South Shields home.

Calder, of no fixed abode, was at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of assault. He pleaded not guilty and asked to stand trial before magistrates.

He was denied bail and will appear back at the court by videolink on February 13 when a trial date will be set.
