A MAN has been remanded in custody after being charged with causing grievous bodily harm to his girlfriend.

Rhys Culley appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of the GBH and another offence of criminal damage.

Both offences are alleged to have taken place on Saturday at his partner’s address in South Shields.

The 22-year-old, of Elizabeth Diamond Gardens, entered no pleas and the case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court for a hearing on March 10.

Valerie Bell, defending, made an application for conditional bail but magistrates decided he should be remanded in custody.
