A MAN has appeared in court accused of carrying out a string of sex offences in South Tyneside.

Police received reports of two indecent assaults and a number of flashing incidents carried out by a man driving a silver Vauxhall Astra on Sunday.

Dad-of-one Carl Todner was arrested by officers investigating the alleged incidents and charged with five counts of sexual touching, one of engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 13, outraging public decency and four counts of exposing himself.

The 27-year-old, of Elgin Avenue, Seaham, appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday but entered no pleas to the 11 offences.

Paul Anderson, prosecuting, said all the charges involved women and girls, one of them of pre-teenage age.

The first incident is alleged to have taken place on Sunday, March 9, on a bridge at Low Simonside, Jarrow.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in West Park, Jarrow, on Tuesday.

Magistrates remanded Todner until in custody until a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court on Thursday, April 10.
