A MAN accused of training dogs for fighting failed to show up at court.

Scott Brown was due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday to face five animal cruelty charges.

The 29-year-old is charged with two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals, failing to ensure an animal’s welfare, failing to prevent unnecessary suffering to an animal and keeping or training an animal in connection with a fight.

The charges relate to the welfare of two female lurchers, two male terriers and a female terrier between November 2010 and March last year.

Brown, of Cheltenham Drive, Boldon Colliery, was not at court and the case was adjourned until April 2.
