A MAN has been arrested after an armed raid at a house in South Tyneside.
Two offenders, one in possession of a blade and the other a broomhandle, stole electrical goods during the burglary at a property in Hawthorne Avenue, South Shields at about 4pm on Friday.
The raiders threatened the occupant of the property before making off with the items.
No-one was injured during the incident.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with burglary.
Officers are continuing to carrying out inquiries.
It’s believed one of the offenders involved is known to the victim.
Officers have been in the area to carry out investigations and to offer reassurance to residents.
They are keen to trace and identify the second man and asking anyone who has information to come forward.
He is described as being in his 20s, approximately 6ft tall, slim build with short brown hair and has noticeable tooth decay.
Detective Inspector Alan Cairns said: “Understandably incidents such as this cause concern to local residents and enquiries are ongoing to trace the outstanding offender.
“If anyone has any information and has not yet spoken to police I’d urge them to come forward, whether anyone saw the men going into the address or have information about those who may be involved, we’re keen to speak to any witnesses.”
