A MAN needed treatment for a head injury after a day time attack by two thugs armed with a bat in South Tyneside.

Police were called to Dock Street, South Shields, at 11.25am on Sunday after reports that a 26-year-old man had been assaulted by two armed men outside a house.

Following inquiries, a 19-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and is currently in custody.

Police say they believe the assault is an isolated incident, with those involved thought to be known to each other.

They say the attack possibly stemmed from a previous incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw two men going into or out of the house on Sunday morning, or who witnessed any activity in the area, to contact them on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
