A MAN was arrested after police saw him riding a stolen bicycle.
Robert Little was seen on the BMX, worth £150, in Bonsall Road, Hebburn, on Wednesday.
Officers realised it was one that had been stolen from a shed in the town a day earlier.
The 20-year-old, of Hedgeley Road, Hebburn, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, having originally been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
He told the officers he had borrowed the bike from a friend, but wouldn’t say who.
Christopher Brown, defending, said: “He didn’t know it had been stolen but perhaps turned a blind eye to where it might have come from.”
Magistrates gave Little a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
The bike was returned to its owner.
