Man charged with attempted murder after motorbike shooting leaves boy fighting for life

A man and a teenage boy have been charged in connection with a shooting which left a boy fighting for life.

Steven Thompson, 39, of Hewitt Avenue, Ryhope, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a firearm and perverting the course of justice.

A 16-year-old teenage boy, who lives in the Sunderland area but cannot be identified for legal reasons, has been charged with possession of a firearm and perverting the course of justice.

Both have been remanded in custody to appear before South Tyneside Magistrates Court this morning.

The 15-year-old victim was shot on Hewitt Avenue on Wednesday evening.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Enquiries into the incident will continue over the coming days and extra patrols will remain in the area to reassure any concerned members of the public.
