A MAN accused of attacking his girlfriend while she was on the phone to her mum will stand trial.

Liam Chisholm is said to have punched the woman, causing her teeth to cut through her bottom lip, during the alleged attack on Friday.

The 19-year-old is also accused of headbutting the woman some days earlier, giving her a black eye and swollen cheek.

He was at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, facing two counts of assault.

John McGlone, prosecuting, told the court that Chisholm’s girlfriend was on the phone to her mother when the second alleged assault happened.

Chisholm, of Whitham Road, Hebburn, pleaded not guilty to both charges, and will stand trial before magistrates on April 19.

He was granted conditional bail.

until then on the conditions that he does not contact prosecution witnesses, lives at the address given to court and does not enter South Shields except for pre-arranged appointments at court, his solicitors’ or the JobCentre.
