Man due in court over stabbing death

MURDER SCENE ... police at the scene in Burn Closes Crescent, Wallsend, where Ryan Armstrong, inset, was stabbed to death in the early hours of Saturday.

MURDER SCENE ... police at the scene in Burn Closes Crescent, Wallsend, where Ryan Armstrong, inset, was stabbed to death in the early hours of Saturday.

A MAN was due in court today charged with murder after a partygoer was stabbed to death in North Tyneside.

Liam Kennedy, 21, of Martin Road, Wallsend, will appear before North Tyneside Magistrates Court accused of murdering Ryan Armstrong.

The 25-year-old was found injured in Burn Closes Crescent, Wallsend, shortly before 2am on Saturday and later pronounced dead in hospital.

Police are still investigating Mr Armstrong’s death. It’s believed he had been at a house party when a fight broke out.

Three women, aged 19, 45, and 25 who were also arrested have been released on bail, while a 19-year-old man and women aged 21 and 20 have been released and will face no further action.

Neighbour Donna Girdlestone, 35, called an ambulance after coming out of her house to find Mr Armstrong surrounded by people and in a pool of blood.

She said: “It’s a horrible thing to have happened. He was a quiet lad, but well-known around here.”

Floral tributes to Mr Armstrong have been laid outside the house.

One from the victim’s sister read: “Ryan my darling brother. I love you so much. I can’t believe this has happened.

“You were the best and we loved you so much. Miss you so bad.”

His parents, friends and other relatives had also left bouquets.

In a statement issued through Northumbria Police, his family said: “He was a hard-working lad who was a lovely man. We are a close family.”

Another resident, Gale Logan, 43, said: “This place had a bad reputation, but I thought it had got better recently. Clearly that’s not the case.”
