A MAN accused of causing £10,000 worth of damage to 19 cars in South Tyneside on the same day has appeared in court.

Carl Jardine, 24, is also charged with criminal damage to a house and burglary with intent to cause damage.

Jardine, of Kingsway in South Shields, faces a total of 21 charges – 19 related to vehicle damage, one for damage to a home and another for burglary.

All offences are alleged to have taken place in South Shields on Sunday, March 10.

The charges include £1,500 of damage to a Renault Megane, £1,000 of damage to a BMW 318, £1,000 of damage to a Jaguar S Type and £1,000 of damage to a Mercedes E220.

Prosecutor Sarah Guest said the case should be heard at crown court due to the high value of the damage.

No pleas were entered by Jardine at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The case will eventually go to Newcastle Crown Court.

Jardine will be back before magistrates on June 19.

He was given conditional bail until that date.
