A MAN has admitted murdering his girlfriend, who was found dead in a Tyneside barber shop.

The body of Lisa Jane Banks was found inside the Sole’O barbers in Nile Street, North Shields, North Tyneside, in September.

The 46-year-old, from the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Robert Lawrence Tiffin, also 46, who was in a relationship with the victim, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to murder.

He will be given a life sentence when he appears in court again on January 20.

Toby Hedworth QC, defending, told the court Tiffin denies taking the knife used in the killing to the murder scene.

Mr Hedworth said: “His case is that the knife eminated originally from his flat, which is directly over the road, but that the victim had herself borrowed the knife two or three days beforehand, and that is why it was with her in

the shop where it was used.”

A hearing will be held before Tiffin is sentenced to determine exactly how the knife got in the shop.

Judge James Goss QC told Tiffin: “As you know, there is but one sentence that will have to be passed in due course, but I have to fix a minimum term that must be served before you can be considered for release.

“That process will require me to try an issue in relation to the knife.”

Tiffin, of Nile Street, North Shields, was remanded in custody until the next hearing.
