A MAN from South Tyneside man has been given a conditional discharge after admitting possessing cannabis.
Kevin Blackburn, 45, of Wellington Drive, South Shields, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a Class B drug at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that police had visited his home at about 8.40pm on February 26 to take a statement from him on an unrelated matter when a quantity of cannabis was spotted on the couch.
Blackburn, who was unrepresented in court, admitted the offence. He told the court that he used the drug to help him cope with ill-health.
He was given a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay court costs of £85, as well as a victim surcharge of £15.
