A MAN has been remanded in custody after a cannabis farm valued at £175,000 was uncovered in South Tyneside.

Police found the haul at an address in Revesby Street, South Shields, on Tuesday.

Sieu Vo, 43, of no fixed abode, was arrested and appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with producing a quantity of cannabis.

Vo made no pleas during the short hearing.

Glenda Beck, prosecuting, said the case should be sent directly to Newcastle Crown Court.

Mrs Beck said: “The cannabis farm was found with irrigation and lighting systems in place. There were 175 plants, with an estimated street value of £175,000.”

Magistrates declined jurisdiction.

Vo was remanded in custody until a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court on February 6.
