A MAN has appeared in court after an attack outside a South Tyneside pub.
Lee Robert Watling, 29, of Gainsborough Avenue, South Shields, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court today.
No pleas were taken during the hearing.
Police received a report of two men fighting outside the Sand Dancer in Sea Road, South Shields, at 9.40pm on Sunday.
A 27-year-old man remains in South Tyneside District Hospital with a serious head injury.
Watling was granted conditional bail at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, but remains in custody pending an appeal by the Crown Prosecution Service over bail being granted.
A hearing is expected to be held later this week at Newcastle Crown Court.
