A MAN accused of carrying out two knifepoint robberies has made his first crown court appearance.

Ricki Ceolin spoke only to confirm his name during the short hearing today at Newcastle, where he appeared via videolink to HMP Durham.

The 29-year-old is accused of raids at Alan’s Corner in Black Road, Hebburn, and Auckland Discount Store in nearby Auckland Road.

During the robberies it is claimed a knife was brandished and staff were ordered to hand over cigarettes and alcohol.

The owner of the Auckland store had his fingers cut with a knife during the attack on his shop.

Ceolin, of Kirkstone Avenue, Jarrow, was not asked to enter pleas to the two robbery and knife possession charges he faces.

The court heard his legal team have yet to view CCTV footage from the stores.

He will be back in court for a plea and directions hearing on March 22.
