A SOUTH Tyneside man has appeared in court after an alleged raid on a home in Gateshead.

Michael Luke appeared before the town’s Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with aggravated burglary, attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

Police were called to an address on Saltwell Road, Gateshead, at about 8pm on Sunday, February 9 following reports of a burglary.

The 23-year-old, of Calf Close Drive, Jarrow, entered no pleas to the charges and the case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court for a hearing on February 25.

John Hardingham, 40, of Loft Hill, Sunderland, is also charged with aggravated burglary.

He also entered no plea and his case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court on the same date.

Both were granted unconditional bail until the February 25 court date, but have been remanded in custody until an appeal by the Crown Prosecution Service against bail being given is heard by a crown court judge in the next 24 hours.
