A MAN is in hospital in a serious condition after being stabbed at his South Shields home.
Police were called to Simonside Hall, in Simonside, at 8.43pm last night after reports of an attack.
A 60-year-old was found inside the property with a stab wound.
He was taken to the accident and emergency department of the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, before being transferred to the Freeman Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
A 60-year-old woman was arrested and remains in police custody.
A police spokesman said that the victim and his alleged attacker were known to each other.
A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said they received a call at 8.43pm and arrived on scene five minutes later.
They said the call was categorised as ‘red 1’, which is the top priority that incidents can be given, meaning that it was potentially life threatening.
