A MAN stole seven jars of honey from three South Tyneside supermarkets as he was trying to “build up his body strength”.
Kenny Thompson snatched three jars of honey – valued at £30 – from Tesco in Newcastle Road, South Shields, on March 17, and another three, worth £32.97, from Sainsbury in the town, on the same day.
He also stole another jar valued at £16.99 from Morrisons in Jarrow on March 27.
The 29-year-old, of Fife Avenue, Jarrow, pleaded guilty to the three thefts at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
David Hatfield, defending, said: “He stole the honey because he wanted items to help build up the strength in his body.”
Thompson was given a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work as well as costs of £85 and a £60 victim surcharge.
