Man stopped by police had drugs in pocket

A MAN was found with drugs in his jacket after being stopped by police.

James Brennan was searched by officers carrying out inquiries into a different matter at Mill Dam, South Shields, on Saturday, December 14.

They found 1.17g of cannabis in the 25-year-old’s pocket.

Brennan, of Western Approach, South Shields, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Glenda Beck, prosecuting, said: “The defendant was searched and cannabis resin was found in his jacket pocket.

“He admitted possession but refused to say where he had got the drugs from, but said he had bought a £20 bag.

Christopher Brown, defending, said: “He is not a habitual user of cannabis.

“When taken to the police station he admitted the offences, saying he was going to smoke the cannabis.”

Magistrates handed Brennan a six month conditional discharge.
