POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 20-year-old man was stabbed in South Tyneside.
Officers were called to a house in Collingwood Street, Hebburn, at 3.44am this morning when a man was reported to have suffered facial injuries after being stabbed.
A 19-year-old woman at the address was also punched during the attack.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and four other people, two men aged 18 and 20, and two women aged 19 and 21 were all arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
They all remain in police custody.
It is believe all those involved are known to each other.
The 20-year-old injured man was taken to South Tyneside Hospital and released after treatment.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. The woman did not require medical treatment.
There were a number of people in the house at the time of the incident and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Officers investigating the incident have also seized four bicycles and a moped, which are suspected to be stolen property.
