Masked gang hunted over attack in Chinese takeaway



A MASKED gang who attacked a man in a Chinese takeaway in South Shields are today being hunted by police.

The incident happened at 10.50pm yesterday, when police received a report that three men had entered the China Cook takeaway in Canterbury Street and assaulted a member of staff.

The staff member, who is not being named, suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack.

The attackers were wearing dark balaclavas or ski masks and dark clothing. They fled the scene in the direction of Albany Street.

Officers carrying out inquiries are still trying to establish whether the gang were armed.

Extra officers are in the area speaking to local residents and carrying out house to house inquiries.

Anyone who was in the area of Canterbury Street at the time and saw anything suspicious - vehicles or people acting suspiciously - is asked to contact police.
