YOBS who torched a mobility car parked in a South Tyneside street are being hunted by police.

The car was parked in St Marks Way, South Shields, when it was set on fire at about 12.30am on Sunday, January 27.

The person thought to be responsible was spotted running off towards Bedford Avenue.

A police spokesman said: “The owner of the vehicle is disabled and the vehicle is a mobility car which is driven for him by a relative.

“This is a nasty, pointless, thing to have done to what was clearly a disability vehicle.

“I hope someone will come forward with information which will help lead us to the offender.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on the 101 non-emergency number, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
