POLICE are asking motorists to be extra vigilant after a spate of spare tyre thefts in South Tyneside.
The latest happened in Romilly Street, South Shields, overnight on Monday.
Police are now appealing for drivers to check the security of their spare tyres.
Neighbourhood Inspector Peter Sutton said: “Where possible, owners should ensure their spare tyre is securely fitted and think about adding a security bolt, which can only be opened with a key.”
Anyone with information on the theft, or seeing people acting suspicious around vehicles, is asked to contact police on 101.
