POLICE today launched a murder-style probe after a woman was found dead in South Tyneside.
Officers were called to a home in Church View, Boldon Colliery, at 11.05am, following concern for the woman who lived there.
Police attended and discovered the body of a woman.
Officers are carrying out an investigation at the scene and are appealing for help from the public.
A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barrett said: “We want to hear from anyone who was in the area of Church View, Boldon, between Thursday, September 12 and Friday, September 13, who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, or out of the ordinary.
“Even if they’re not sure if their information will be useful, please come forward as detectives want to piece together what has happened here, and this means speaking to people who have been in the area.
“Officers believe those involved were known to each other.”
Detectives are in the process of informing relatives, and police are not in a position to name the deceased at this time.
Detectives are in the early stages of this enquiry, and officers are carrying out house to house enquiries in the area.
South Tyneside area commander Chief Superintendent Ian Dawes said: “We know that these types of incident cause great concern in our community.
“We have extra officers in the area carrying out high visibility patrols to reassure people and speak with local people.
