Michael Saleh was discovered by police at 12.35am on Monday.

His family say he is still in a “serious condition” in Sunderland Royal Hospital, and yesterday underwent surgery on his jaw.

The 25-year-old, from South Shields, is also said to have fractures to his skull.

Here’s how we told of his family’s plea for help to catch his attackers

His uncle, Khalid Saleh, says because of his injuries, his loved ones have been unable to speak to him.

Mr Saleh, said: “There has been no change apart from he has underwent an operation. But the hospital are still keeping him sedated so we haven’t been able to speak to him, so we still don’t know what has happened.”

Police are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Anyone who knows what happened is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.
