DRUNKEN Newcastle United fans caused trouble at a motorway service station on their way to Manchester United on Saturday.

Police were called to Hartshead Moor Services on the M62 after about 100 fans stopped at the Welcome Break service station.

The fans were chanting and beer bottles were thrown, and a 17-year-old member of staff was hit by a bottle.

Officers are investigating, and are examining CCTV footage of the incident, which happened at about 10.25am.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

On their way back from Old Trafford, the fans were escorted through North Yorkshire and up to Tyneside, and prevented from stopping at Hartshead, Wetherby and Ferrybridge services.
