One man is fighting for his life and another was stabbed in separate incidents in Newcastle city centre last night.
The first occurred just after midnight when a 33-year-old man was stabbed outside Lloyds bank at Haymarket Metro station.
Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The area was cordoned off to allow officers to carry out an investigation.
Those inquiries continue and Northumbria Police are appealing for any witnesses to the attack to get in touch on 101.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident and currently remain in police custody.
The second incident occurred at about 1.15am today when a 40-year-old man was seriously assaulted in Times Square, Newcastle.
Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with what are thought to be life-threatening injuries.
The person responsible for the attack had already left the area, and inquiries are ongoing to identify him.
This incident is not thought to be connected in any way to the earlier stabbing.
Anyone who saw the attack, or has any information that could help officers, should contact them on 101.
