TWO people accused of crashing a suspected stolen car have been remanded in custody.

Connor Dodds, and a 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates Court on Saturday.

The pair were both charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

Dodds, 20, whose address was given by the police as Gordon Street, South Shields, and the youth, were remanded in custody until they are due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, February 8.

The youth will also be dealt with for three other driving offences.

The pair are accused of stealing a silver BMW from South Shields, which later collided with a Ford Focus.

Polce were called to Newcastle Road, at its junction with Shields Road, at 7.25am on Friday.

The smash forced the police to close the road while emergency crews dealt with the aftermath.
