TWO men facing a joint assault charge are set to stand trial.
Gavin Meek and Damion Meek are both accused of assaulting the same man.
The offence is alleged to have taken place in South Shields on Tuesday, January 21.
Both men denied the charge when they appeared together at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
The duo are charged with a total of three alledged offences each.
Gavin Meek, 33, of Fellside, South Shields, also entered not guilty pleas to charges of using threatening, insulting or abusive words or behaviour to cause alarm, harassment or distress.
He also denied a third charge of causing criminal damage to a door valued at £186.
Those offences are also alleged to have taken place on the same date.
Damion Meek, 23, of Laygate, South Shields, also denied the same charges of using threatening, insult or abusive words or behaviour to cause alarm, harassment or distress and causing criminal damage to the door, from the same date.
The two defendants will stand trial at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on September 5.
Both men were granted unconditional bail until their trial date at the court later this year.
