INVESTIGATION: Inquiries are ongonig after a car blaze in West Boldon

Police are investigating an early-morning car fire in South Tyneside.

Police and the fire crews were called after a Renault Laguna was set alight in Cemetery Road, Jarrow, at 4.10am on Saturday.

Fire fighters from Hebburn Fire Station put out the blaze, which destroyed the car.

Police are appealing for witnesses. A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to Cemetery Road in Jarrow at 4.10am following reports a car was on fire.

“The fire service attended and dealt with the fire.

“A Renault Laguna vehicle was damaged.

“Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police on 101.”
