Four police cars were deployed to King Street in South Shields this morning after a report of suspicious activity.

The cars were seen outside of NatWest bank.

However, it turned out to be a false alarm.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "We received a third party report of suspicious activity on Thursday, April 27, on King Street, South Shields.

"No criminal offence had taken place but the report had been made in good faith."
