POLICE sniffed out a crime when they caught a teenager in possession of drugs.
Ryan Craigs had cannabis stashed under the front passenger seat of a car he was travelling in, when it was stopped by officers in Sunniside Lane, South Shields.
Police had been concerned about how the vehicle was being driven, but could smell cannabis coming from the car when they approached.
A search was carried out and a bag of cannabis, as well as two grinders, two pipes and a bong were also uncovered.
Craigs admitted the drugs and paraphernalia were his and was arrested by police.
The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Magistrates gave Craigs, of Cricklewood Road, Sunderland, a six-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £15.
