Police struggling to shed light on severed-penis case

DETECTIVES are still yet to get a “detailed account” of the circumstances surrounding an attack in which a dad had his penis cut off.

CID officers have made “regular visits” to speak to the 40-year-old victim at James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

But a Cleveland Police spokeswoman said the man is still unable to give any detailed account of the incident.

The investigations into the attack are now into a sixth day.

The police spokeswoman said: “We have been making regular visits to the hospital but the man hasn’t been able to give us any detailed account.

“We are still investigating how he came by his injuries.”

The dad-of-seven, who is from a travellers’ site in the South Bank area of Middlesbrough, was found staggering along the A66 and looking in nearby bushes at 4.50am last Thursday after suffering the horrific injuries.

He was initially put into an induced coma but regained consciousness on Friday.

The A66 was closed throughout Thursday as police officers searched for the penis.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He was bailed pending further inquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101.
