FOUR people have been questioned by police after fire broke out at a house in South Tyneside.
Firefighters and police were called to Dacre Street, Chichester, South Shields, after receiving reports of a blaze in a ground-floor flat.
The alarm was raised at just after 5.10pm on Wednesday.
No one was injured in the fire, a suspected arson attack, but it left the living room of the property badly damaged.
A neighbouring flat also suffered smoke damage.
Yesterday, both the door and the window of the property were boarded up as police launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
A police spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene, along with the fire service.
“No one was injured as a result of the fire.
“Police investigating the fire are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.”
Four people have been questioned by police.
They are two women, aged 40 and 36, and a 36-year-old man, as well as a 17-year-old youth.
They were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
Last night, all four were continuing to help police with their inquiries into the blaze.
