Porn-row man gets community order

OUT OF COURT ... Charles Torrance.

OUT OF COURT ... Charles Torrance.

A COUNCIL worker who smashed a window after his wife threw him out for watching pornography has been given community service.

Dad-of-three Charles Torrance, 41, was thrown out of his home in Revesby Street, South Shields, after viewing porn on the family computer.

South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court heard he walked the streets before returning and punching the window, showering his wife in broken glass and cutting her arm.

When his wife confronted him about watching porn, he told her he couldn’t help himself.

Torrance, pictured, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and assault last month and was back before magistrates to be sentenced.

He was given a 12-month community order with supervision by the probation service and ordered him to complete 40 hours’ unpaid work.

He was told to pay £100 compensation to his wife – who the court heard will not take him back – and £85 court costs.
