BACK IN COURT ... prolific offender Keith Bingham.

A SERIAL shop thief landed himself back in court after carrying out another retail raid.

Keith Bingham snatched 11 DVDs worth a total of £90 from British Home Stores in Waterloo Square, South Shields, on Saturday, February 1.

The 46-year-old has more than 60 previous theft convictions and has spent lengthy periods behind bars due to his prolific offending.

He was jailed for eight months in August after stealing £35 of bedding from the same store.

He was also jailed for eight weeks in August 2012 after after admitting stealing two bottles of vodka from Lidl in Laygate, South Shields.

He was caged for eight weeks in September 2012 for stealing 11 blocks of cheese from Heron Foods, in the Market Place in South Shields.

Bingham, of Brunswick Street, South Shields, pleaded guilty to the shop theft at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

But he will be sentenced at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court on April 28, the same date he is due for a deferred sentencing hearing for a shop theft in the city in December.

Paul Anderson, prosecuting, said: “He is subject to a deferred sentence given by Sunderland Magistrates’ Court in January for a period of three months.

“It would be appropriate for this case to go there to tie in with that matter.”

Geoffrey Forrester, defending, agreed that the sentencing should be adjourned until April 28 at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates agreed to adjourn the case until then.
