Search goes on for brick-wielding robber who broke woman’s nose

POLICe are continuing the hunt for a brick-wielding robber who left a woman with a suspected broken nose.

The 43-year-old woman had been walking through an underpass near Jarrow Metro station with a male when they were confronted by another male armed with a brick who demanded the woman’s money.

He grabbed her handbag, which contained her mobile phone, bus pass and spectacles, from her shoulder, before running off towards some bushes.

He then returned and punched the victim in the face. She was left with a suspected broken nose.

The woman was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital for treatment.

The robber is described as slim, in his 20s, and wearing a dark coloured jacket with a hood. He ran off along Chapel Road.

The robbery happened at 12.20am on Sunday and police say inquiries are ongoing.
